Our Client, a leading UK group working within UK defence industry currently capitalised in excess of £1bn, requires an internal auditor to join their small team covering the UK and Europe.

The group has experienced 40% growth through organic development and acquisition and as a result of this expansion, the European internal audit team is looking to expand with qualified top 10 accountants looking for their first move out of practice with some European language skills.

The role requires about  60% foreign travel and pays a basic salary of £45K with discretionary share bonus scheme and fully expensed company car in the UK.

Job specification:

  • Assist in the of the effectiveness of the policies, procedures and standards by which the company's financial, physical and information resources are managed.
  • Add value by acting as a facilitator in business risk management and carrying out value for money reviews, thereby assisting the management in the effective discharge of their responsibilities.

Reports to: Head of  Internal Audit

Duties and responsibilities

  • To work with management to ensure systems are in place ensuring all major risks of the company are identified and analysed, on a quarterly basis
  • To assist in the  planning and organising of  the internal audit function  including the preparation of an audit plan which fulfils the responsibility of the department, scheduling and assigning work and estimating resource needs
  • To report to both the audit committee and management on the policies, programmes and activities of the department
  • To coordinate coverage with the external auditors and ensure that each party is not only aware of the other's work but also well briefed on areas of concern
  • To make recommendations on the systems and procedures being reviewed, report on the findings and recommendations and monitor management's response and implementation
  • To review and report on the accuracy, timeliness and relevance of the financial and other information that is provided for management
  • To work with management to ensure a system is in place which ensure that all major risks of the company are identified and analysed, on an annual basis
  • To report on the value for money that the company obtains in all its activities with special regard to economy, efficiency and effectiveness
  • To conduct any reviews or tasks requested by directors, the audit committee, chief executive or finance director, provided a such reviews and tasks do not compromise the independence or objectivity of the internal audit function
  • To provide both management and the audit committee with an opinion on the internal controls across the group.
